Gilbert International operates a private 10-car Union Pacific rail spur inside 250,000+ square feet of warehouse in Laredo, Texas. Railcars spot at our dock, and freight moves straight to a truck, into racked storage, or into customs bonded space — no public ramp, no intermediate dray.
Most rail freight in a border market gets worked at a team track or a third-party ramp, then trucked across town to wherever it actually lives. Every extra touch is cost and dwell. A spur inside the warehouse deletes the middle of that sentence.
How the spur works
- Spot — Union Pacific spots up to ten cars on our private spur.
- Work — cars are unloaded at dock height, counted, and condition-checked by our crew.
- Move — freight is staged for same-day truck dispatch, put away in racked or floor storage, or received in bond.
The storage buffer
Rail arrives on the railroad’s schedule; your customers order on theirs. The warehouse absorbs the difference — product comes off the car once, waits in storage until it has a destination, then leaves as full truckload or LTL consolidation up I-35. Pick and pack is available through distribution in the same building.
Rail and the duty clock
In-bond rail freight can come off the car and go straight into bonded storage — we hold customs bonded classes 3, 4, 8 and 11 on site. The duty clock stops, product can be repacked or relabeled in bond, and it enters commerce only when sold. See the customs bonded warehouse page.
