Gilbert International moves freight through the Laredo–Nuevo Laredo crossing — the largest inland port in the United States, three hours from Monterrey. Roughly $339 billion in trade crossed here in 2024. We receive it, transload it, store it, and dispatch it from 250,000+ square feet on I-35.
A northbound load changes hands at the border: a Mexican carrier brings it to Laredo, a US carrier takes it north. That handoff is where crossings go wrong — trailers waiting on dock space, paperwork out of sync with the freight, drayage burning days. Our job is to make the handoff boring.
Northbound
- Receiving — the Mexican carrier or drayage delivers to our dock. We unload, count, and confirm condition the same day.
- Transload — committed freight moves straight from the inbound trailer to a US trailer. The rest goes into racked storage until it has somewhere to be.
- Dispatch — full truckload or LTL consolidation up I-35: San Antonio in under three hours, Dallas–Fort Worth the same day.
Southbound
Mexico-bound freight runs the same play in reverse. We receive from US carriers anywhere in the country, stage and consolidate at the border, and hand off to the Mexican carrier — so nothing crosses half-empty and nothing sits in a queue it didn’t need to join.
When freight shouldn’t enter commerce yet
Not every northbound load is ready to pay duty. We hold four customs bonded classes in the same building — freight sits with the duty clock stopped for up to five years, can be repacked or relabeled in bond, and enters US commerce only when it’s sold. See the customs bonded warehouse page.
Common questions
Who files the customs entry?
Your customs broker files the entry; we coordinate dock timing and documents with them. Laredo has the densest broker base on the border — if you don’t have one, we’ll point you to brokers we work with every day.
Can freight go straight from a Mexican trailer to a US trailer?
Yes. Committed freight crosses our dock and leaves the same day — it never has to touch storage.
What if my freight isn’t sold yet?
It goes into bonded storage in the same building, duty deferred until you withdraw it — up to five years.
